Cancer Cat gets a new home
FANS of homeless Pussykins who featured in our heart-tugging July Cat of the Month story will be delighted to know she's got a new home.
Poor old Pussykins spent too much time in the sun and ended up having her ears snipped. Like all white cats, she's extra sensitive to the sun, especially on her unprotected skin at the tips of her ears and nose.
When she came into the care of the Cats Protection charity, she was taken to the vet who noticed pre-cancerous skin cells developing on those sensitive spots. The potentially-deadly cells were cut away.
Now she's moved in with a new owner, Caroline Smith from Newport, who said she had settled in well and was "really happy."
A spokesperson for Gwent Cats Protection said: "This is particularly satisfying, she came into the care of the Gwent South Branch of Cats Protection three months ago when her elderly owner passed away - its wonderful she's got a home and is happy."
White cats are 14 times more likely to develop cancers than darker-coloured ones. To stop her shrinking any further, Pussykins' new owner will have to apply sun-cream to what is left of her ears and nose.
