Charter Housing
Charter Housing Association is a charitable Industrial and Provident Society and Registered Social Landlord.
Formerly known as Family Care, Charter Housing started in 1972 when the plight of a young homeless mother in Newport, Gwent, was drawn to the attention of a group of concerned people.
Charter Housing is now part of the Seren Group.
Charter provides landlord and associated services to a housing stock of nearly 4,000 properties and operates in the counties of Newport, Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Caerphilly offering a range of accommodation from traditional houses to specialist 'extra care' schemes for older people.
Charter is a forward thinking organisation which has developed a number of new initiatives in Wales including Choice Based Lettings, Gold Service and Charter 'CFM' (Customer Focussed Maintenance) which is a collaborative approach to delivering maintenance services in partnership with our contractors.
Charter believes strongly that it has a role to play beyond that of a traditional landlord, and we work in partnership with communities and other agencies to provide services and projects which 'add value' for the benefit of people living in those communities.
This approach led to us winning the UK Housing Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Social Housing in the UK in 2004 for our intergenerational project 'Learning Links'.
