Gateways To Learning
Gateways to learning is a new ESF funded project aimed at promoting libraries as sources of information for the community. It serves to widen participation in learning and help people become confident and critical information users.
This is a FREE service, based at local libraries, aimed at promoting the ability to locate, evaluate and use information for a specific task or decision, or to build on existing knowledge.
What does this mean exactly?
Information Literacy Co-ordinators are available to support people in using every information source available to them in libraries, such as the internet, library catalogues, books, archives, magazines, newspapers etc.
Information obtained may be used for:

CV writing and job seeking

Hobbies and interests (gardening, sport, health)

Education and study support
-
Local and family history
We even offer a Free, newly accredited qualification to recognise these skills - the OCN Information Literacy at levels 1, 2 and 3.
We teach, support and assess learners and provide complimentary basic ICT skills training as a pre-cursor to Information Literacy training.
These OCNs can be tailored to any topic of interest, and is complimentary to any course already being undertaken.
